Some say choosing Christian Ponder as the starting QB for game one was a no-brainer. Actually, it shows excellent judgment and strategic thinking. We believe the Ponder pick was a smart one on several levels.
1. It gives Jimbo a working laboratory -- more than a scrimmage but with less intensity than a league game -- to prove that Ponder is all he thinks young Christian can be.
2. It allows Ponder to comfortably grow into the role -- unlike the pressure cooker situation of a nationally televised kickoff game like the past four years.
3. Ponder may be the starter, but it still gives D'vo opportunities to show people what's wowed coaches in practice. The only danger: If Richardson is indeed a Charlie Ward clone, fans will demand he play more, creating either a two-headed QB with roles for both, or a QB controversy.
4. And the decision leaves Jimbo with a pretty good safety net. Drew Weatherford's three seasons of experience can ride to the rescue if things get shaky.
5. Finally, and maybe best of all, is not WHO was chosen, but who DID the choosing. FSU fans needed proof that Jimbo's Coach-in-Waiting phase didn't come with training wheels.

Mike Bianchi gator smear artist/yellow dog journalist has now taken to deleting his blog under heavy attack from Seminole fans irate concerning his theory that 118 Seminole points in two games was a bad deal.
Thanks Mike and remember O'Brien two and two makes five, it is not easy to become sane.
