Ouch. A free-for-all at the student union between FSU football players and an African-American frat? Sounds like another punch to the mid-section of Florida State's image. Front page news that skips right past the sports section. And endless repetition on ESPN's crawl at the bottom of your TV screen.
Not so fast, my bummed-out friend. What may seem like an emotional, immature act is possibly something any of us would do when push actually does come to shove.
Put yourself in the same situation (based on what we've heard so far). You're out with some of your best buddies. Guys you also work with and share a strong bond. Suddenly one of them gets jumped. Would you really just stand by and watch the mayhem?
And consider the creative payback of the frat guys. If you really want to get back at a player you think hit on your GF, don't just sucker punch them. Sucker them into a fight that might get them suspended, cause them to miss playing time, and even cost them in the NFL draft because of a bad rep.
Then hope it works in life the way it does on the field: the player who throws the first punch gets away with it, while the guy who retaliates gets in trouble.
Conspiracy theory? Just a plausible scenario until all the sordid facts are sorted out.
Its an interesting theory for sure, but players need to not put themselves into that type of situation, and all too often they do.

I really hope these are the right set of facts. Both parties have reasons to be very slanted here. Linked.
