Jarred "Scooter" Haggins didn't waste any time piling up stats for '09. The Florida State commit threw for three touchdowns and 222 yards leading Lakeland High over cross-town rival Lake Gibson. Of course, Haggins was recruited as an athlete not a QB, and is penciled-in as a WR at FSU. But if he continues to light up the opposition with his arm, will Jimbo Fisher give him a shot under center? Haggins is the nephew of Noles assistant coach Odell Haggins, so his commitment should be about as solid as you could expect for a teenager being courted by a dozen or more schools.
Last week we reported former FSU commit Willie Downs is at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College. In his first college game, Downs showed more than a hint of the impact he could make if he finds his way back to Tallahassee. Downs grabbed five passes for 124 yards and two scores as Pearl River stampeded Holmes C.C. 45 - 7. No word if Downs saw any duty at the safety spot, which a team spokesman said is expected during the season.
